Sharon Henthorn-Iwane: Encountering the Faithful Icon

Sharon Henthorn-Iwane is one of those unique individuals who not only has a breadth of experience, but a depth of presence about her. With an educational background covering areas in biology, art, iconography, and spiritual direction, her ability to meaningfully share her experience with a theological richness is as insightful as it is approachable. Sharon has also worked with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, and is currently partnered with New College Berkeley. Being able to talk to her was a pleasure and privilege.

In this interview, Sharon shares some of her knowledge about the history of iconography and its unique importance to the Christian faith, along with some explanation about her own process of icon making, some misconceptions about artists and art, and why the Church really needs to make space for artistic expression.
